Several years ago, we discovered a novel published online by Oregon author William Michaelian. A novel published online? Why not in book form? This was a time when very few books were being published electronically. In fact, many doubted whether people would have the patience to read an entire book on a computer. We then learned that a print edition of Michaelian's novel had been planned, but that the publisher had gone back on his agreement and the book wasn't formally released.

Michaelian persisted — in fact demanded — that his book survive. A Listening Thing thrived on the internet, where readers around the world stopped in for hours at a time to absorb the enlightening tale of self-proclaimed loser Stephen Monroe. Cosmopsis Books is pleased to present this novel, printed here for the first time, in this official authorized release that includes the original (examined and corrected) text plus a new foreword, afterword, interview, and other materials.
